Called to Serve

Interviews, filling out papers and getting medical, dental and eye exams in preparation to serve a mission is no easy task.  It took us longer than expected to complete the process.
This is the photo we attached to our application.

Five weeks after submitting our papers, the call finally came on September 10, 2013.  Robert had just left for the orchard when I went out to get the mail and found THE ENVELOPE.  I called Robert to see if he wanted to return and open the envelope.  He did.  We decided to set up an ichat with the kids to open the envelope.  Chad, Cheryln and Miriam were available and Todd was with us.

What a surprise to find out that we are going to Africa West Area as assistant auditors!  Africa had entered our minds but it is still a shock to actually know we are going there.

AFRICA!!??!

We report to the MTC on December 2nd, about 2 1/2 months from the time we received our call.  Time for us to get summer clothes, get a bazillion immunizations, winterize the yard, have a reunion in Sedona with Joan's family, get together with cousins, friends, family and arrange for phones, bill payments and other financial commitments.  There is a lot to do!  We are fortunate to have Todd living here while we are gone.  He has been a great help to us in many ways.  We are very grateful for our wonderful family and friends who offer much needed help and support.

This is a picture of the Africa West Area that we downloaded from the Church Website.  We have found out that this is not correct.  We will get another map soon.  I am trying to learn the names of the countries in this part of the world.  Robert already knows them.  I am glad he will be my companion!
